NEW YORK (AP) — A publishing division launched by conservative media company Daily Wire will include publications by Daily Wire co-founder Ben Shapiro, former “Mandalorian” actress Gina Carano, and a book of one of the officers involved in the Breonna Taylor shooting that was dropped by her original distributor.
DW Books will officially launch next spring, the Nashville-based Daily Wire reported Wednesday. The new publishing arm continues a trend of conservatives establishing channels outside New York homes, which, following the Jan. 6 siege of the US Capitol by Donald Trump supporters, have become increasingly reluctant to attack perpetrators – including Trump – seen as promoting extremist views.
“By working with some of the world’s leading authors, then using the marketing prowess of the Daily Wire to bring their work to a wider audience, we will ensure that conservatives and freethinkers are never silenced – that in fact, their exposure continues to grow,” Shapiro said in a statement.
Earlier this year, two conservative former chief editors of New York publishing houses, Louise Burke and Kate Harston, launched All Seasons Press, which plans books from Trump insiders such as the former chief of staff of the White House Mark Meadows and former trade adviser Peter Navarro.
“The society is open to welcoming authors who are attacked, intimidated, banned from social media and, in some cases, outright rejected by politically correct editors,” All Seasons announced in June.
Simon & Schuster dropped a book by Sen. Josh Hawley after the Missouri Republican openly voiced support for the Jan. 6 rally in Washington that led to some attendees storming the Capitol and trying to block certification official of Democrat Joe Biden as the next president. . Many publishing executives in New York have said they would not publish Trump’s memoirs if he decided to write one, citing in part his false claim that the 2020 election had been stolen.
Even the distribution deals, once little noticed by the public, have been called into question in the face of numerous objections. Simon & Schuster in April withdrew distribution of “The Fight for Truth: The Inside Story Behind the Breonna Taylor Tragedy,” from Sgt. Jonathan Mattingly, who along with another officer fired shots that hit Taylor during a March 13, 2020 narcotics raid that killed Taylor.
DW has announced that it will publish Mattingly’s book, which was originally acquired by Post Hill Press, under a different title, to be announced later. They will publish it and other Daily Wire books through Ingram Content Group’s Two Rivers Distribution.
“Simon & Schuster was too scared to tell its story (of Mattingly), but we’re not,” DW Books vice president of publishing Alyssa Cordova told The Associated Press.
Other DW releases include a book by Daily Wire host Candace Owens and a book by Carano, the ‘Mandolorian’ actor who was dropped earlier this year by LucasFilm after comparing the political climate relevant to the Jewish experience during the Holocaust.
Shapiro and Owens each worked with New York publishers and had recent bestsellers. But Cordova said DW Books sees itself as “the perfect partner for conservative authors looking for a publisher who shares their values and can provide direct access to millions of like-minded Americans who value premium content.” and stimulating”.
